Gift Giving

The Good News Today Is...you can always give of your time. No matter how much money you do or don't have in your pocket, you can always give someone a gift of your time. I love the story of the woman washing Jesus' feet with her tears. Luke 7:37-38 "When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and poured perfume on them. " She gave a gift of service and time and Jesus was touched by her. He proclaimed that she gave him exactly what he needed. In Mark we read that Jesus said, "She has done a beautiful thing to me." It was the spirit of humbleness and true selflessness that touched Jesus. While others in the room could not look past the fact that the woman was a sinner, Jesus saw her heart, and he forgave her for her sins. We are meant to give freely of all that we have received freely. Giving is not about how much money we have - so try not to stress this holiday season, but give a gift of yourself - it might be exactly what someone else needs - and that's a beautiful thing.
